October 15, 2021 is the last day for eligible individuals to claim the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) and third stimulus check that were approved in the American Rescue Plan earlier this year. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is basing these payments on 2020 tax returns, so if you have not filed a tax return this year or are considered a non-filer, it is critical that you use the IRS’ Non-filer Sign-up Tool by October 15, 2021 to obtain these payments.

The non-filer population may include people experiencing homelessness, very low-income families with children, people who have been disconnected from employment for a long period of time, and other low-income adults without children. The stimulus check and the advanced CTC can significantly increase cash available for those who need it most and will give our local economies a much-needed boost.

In order to use the IRS’ Non-filer Sign-up Tool, you will need your full name; current mailing address; email address; date of birth; taxpayer ID or Social Security Number for you and your dependents; bank account number, type and routing number, if you have one; and the Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) if you received one from the IRS earlier this year. If you do not have a bank account, please visit the IRS website here for more information on how to obtain your payment.

If you have not done so already, and think you may be eligible for either benefit, please visit the IRS Non-filer Sign-up Tool by October 15, 2021 to obtain these vital resources.
