Tera and her family were once homeless. They lived in a shelter for over a year before being housed through the Rapid Re-Housing Program with the help of PATH.

Since they were matched through Imagine LA in early 2019, Tera and her mentor have built a beautiful relationship, learning and growing together every week.

"Tera is a fighter and a winner," says her mentor. "I am awed by all she has overcome, her commitment to her family, and her perseverance."

Tera and her five children have a full team of mentors partnering with them to meet their goals. Tera entered the program with high hopes of gaining employment, increasing her money managing skills, and building a larger support network.

With the unconditional support of her mentor team and family, Tera completed her training to become a Certified Nurse Assistant and recently started a new job!

Even amidst the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought into her life, Tera hasn't backed down from her challenges or her passion for service. At the senior living center where she works, she cares for elders in her community, supporting them to live fulfilling, healthy, independent lives.

These days, Tera and her mentor connect frequently over the phone to talk about her job, family, how they're all coping, and how she can continue to meet her goals during these exhausting times. "Tera has been through so much," says her mentor. "She inspires me to overcome my own challenges."

Established in 2006 as an initiative of Bel Air Presbyterian Church, Imagine LA launched their pilot Family Mentorship & Empowerment Program with one family and one mentor team in 2008. Their innovative Family Empowerment & Mentorship Model utilizes intensive family case management and supercharges it with mentorship and access to private and public resources.

To date, Imagine LA has recruited and trained more than 1,000 volunteer mentors to support more than 200 families on their journeys. Their success is thanks to hundreds of community-based partners — government, nonprofit, and private organizations.
