Addressing seniors experiencing homelessness across LA County continues to remain a top priority. As a result of an older adult workgroup, LAHSA requested funds to support the conversion of 100 beds of existing Bridge Housing, re-programmed as a new Enhanced Bridge Housing for Older Adults model, and approval from the FY 19-20 Measure H funding process.
With the approval of the funding, there are now 84 beds designated for Older Adults (53 operating as of 11/1/20; 20 as of 2/1/20 and 16 tentatively on 2/24/2020) throughout LA County. Individuals can be referred to a bed by submitting a Universal referral form, which will be screened by the LAHSA Interim Housing County Wide matcher.
In addition to the other supportive services already provided in the initial Bridge Housing program, Enhanced Bridge for Older Adults includes having an Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide clinical support to staff and participants and at least one staff with an educational background (or a minimum of 2 years of experience in gerontology/working with the older adults population).
Providers can also reference the Interim Housing List to identify available beds, however, due to staffing changes and capacity, the current list has does not include Enhanced Bridge for Older Adults.
