WHAT IS SAFE PARKING?

Safe Parking is a low cost and high impact program, providing households experiencing vehicular homelessness with secure overnight parking, access to hygiene amenities, and resources towards obtaining housing

WHY DO SAFE PARKING PROGRAMS EXIST?

According to the 2024 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, over 23,000 people — representing more than 44% of the County's unsheltered population — live in their vehicles on any given night.

Those experiencing vehicular homelessness are often unaware of safe places to stay for the night and often lack access to the homeless services delivery system or linkage to available supportive services.

The Safe Parking Program is a multi-funded strategy to combat vehicular homelessness.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SAFE PARKING PROGRAM?

Safe Parking Programs may be available to persons who meet the following criteria:

An individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence as well as individuals or families fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence. Safe Parking Programs accepting families with children under 18 vary by site and provider.

WHAT SERVICES DOES THE SAFE PARKING PROGRAM PROVIDE?

  • Access to park a vehicle in a safe parking lot with onsite security and restrooms
  • Access to have a Coordinated Entry System (CES) assessment completed
  • Referral/linkage to interim housing, housing navigation, and permanent housing
  • Access to case management, financial assistance, benefits linkage, and document assistance
  • Site amenities may vary according to each site
