How can Looker help me?

• Looker is a data analysis tool that lets you effectively explore and explain your HMIS data
  • Use Looker to uncover hidden trends in your data, and tell the story of what your HMIS data is indicating to stakeholders and funders
  • Understand what's working and not working in your program(s), so you can make faster and more informed decisions
• You also can think of Looker as the "Google of HMIS": use it to efficiently search for HMIS records or other HMIS data that match specific criteria you set.
  • For example, use Looker to find all HMIS records enrolled in a specific program that have newly uploaded a document to HMIS within the past 3 days.

How do I gain access to Looker?

• All HMIS users already have access to Looker!
  • Read How to access Looker in HMIS
• If you don't have an HMIS account yet, enroll in the HMIS Basic Navigation Training Series to qualify for a new HMIS account

How do I learn how to user Looker?

• Sign up for a Looker Training Series in the Centralized Training Academy

Which training series should I take?

• If you are uncertain, we recommend Looker Bootcamp: Complete.
  • It is "the works" (includes all Looker training courses) and is the only series that allows you to download a certificate of completion when finished.
  • It also allows you to bypass the Looker: Basics course if you can get 80% on its pre-test.
• If you are an intermediate user with experience in creating Looker reports, take the Looker Bootcamp: Accelerated series.
• If you are under time constraints or are an advanced user and just need to get oriented to the new Looker resources and gain access to them, the Looker Resources Only series is the most direct route.

Trainings are extensive and robust, but you can take just what you need

• The Looker Bootcamp is an interactive, hands-on training program that is equivalent to a multi-day intensive workshop typically held during dedicated professional development days. To fully benefit from the Looker Bootcamp, please set aside dedicated days and times to work on it without interruptions.
• A benefit of these training courses is that they are self-service. You can take what you need from them and are not required to complete the entire series.
  • For example, if you just need to know how to read, interpret, and modify reports that already exist, you could stop after the Looker: Basics course within the Looker Bootcamp: Complete series.

What happens after I complete a Looker Training Series?

• You will automatically receive access to the Looker Community Resources Channel which houses all the latest versions of our Looker resources including:
  • Looker Model Guide & Cheat Sheet
  • Looker Field Map
  • HMIS-to-Looker Field Lookup
  • Looker Data Dictionaries for both core fields and custom fields
  • Looker Troubleshooting/FAQ
