| The 2005
Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count has resulted in
current, reliable data regarding the number and characteristics of
homeless residents of Los Angeles County. This data increases public
awareness of homelessness, help service providers better serve their
clients, and increase funding for homeless services in our community.
It also forms the baseline for our efforts to implement Bring
LA Home: The Strategic Plan to End Homelessness.
The multidimensional approach for the count methodology yields a complete census of the number of homeless persons who are temporarily sheltered, a number of homeless persons who are residing on the street or in other places not meant for human habitation, and qualitative information regarding the demographic characteristics of both populations. It also produces a sound “turnover rate” that can be used to produce an annual estimate of homelessness in Los Angeles County. The results have been published in a final report, and is currently being distributed to citizens, policymakers, service organizations, and funding sources showing current quantitative and qualitative statistics about the Los Angeles County homeless community. The
final report includes both narrative and graphic elements, including GIS
maps, and is available for distribution and electronic download. |
